Catalytic reduction of nitric oxide by carbon monoxide.

چکیده
The reduction of nitric oxide by carbon monoxide, reaction (l), mediated by metal complexes has attracted great attention recently due to its relevance to the control of air pollution and the intrinsic interest in the mechanism of N20 and C02 formation. 1-7 While a number of catalyst systems for reaction (1) have been reported, only the RhIILRhI and the PdC12CuCI2. systems rapidly catalyse the reaction and have been investigated in detail. In addition to the catalysis of reaction (1), palladium-copper systems have been useful catalysts in many important reactions,4.8 but the analogous platinumcopper system has never found application in any catalytic reaction. We now report the use of K2PtC14-CuC12-CuC1 as a catalyst system for reaction (1). This system is not only much more active than those previously reported, but also reveals a catalytic mechanism different from the palladium-copper catalysed reactions.

Catalytic Oxidation of Carbon Monoxide by Cobalt Oxide Catalysts Supported on Oxidized-MWCNT
Cobalt oxide catalysts supported on oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) for the low-temperature catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide were prepared by an impregnation-ultrasound method. These catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption/desorption, TEM, XRD, Raman, and H2-TPR methods. The XRD and Raman results indicated that the phase of the synthesized cobalt...
متن کاملHydrogen Cyanide Production During Reduction of Nitric Oxide over Platinum Catalysts: Transient Effects.
The formation of hydrogen cyanide during the catalytic reduction of nitric oxide (NO) with carbon monoxide and hydrogen was studied with a bench-scale flow reactor. The previously reported inhibition by sulfur dioxide of the formation of hydrogen cyanide was found to be counteracted by transient admission of oxygen to the catalyst. These results are discussed in the context of the control of au...
متن کاملNew spinel materials for catalytic NO-CO reaction: nonstoichiometric nickel-copper manganites
Nonstoichiometric nickel–copper spinel manganites were found to be highly active for the reduction of nitric oxide by carbon monoxide at low temperature (300C). The activity increases with the level of nonstoichiometry of the oxides and almost linearly with their specific surface area. Moreover, this activity was found to depend strongly on the copper content, nickel manganites being almost ina...
متن کاملCatalysis on singly dispersed bimetallic sites.
A catalytic site typically consists of one or more atoms of a catalyst surface that arrange into a configuration offering a specific electronic structure for adsorbing or dissociating reactant molecules. The catalytic activity of adjacent bimetallic sites of metallic nanoparticles has been studied previously. An isolated bimetallic site supported on a non-metallic surface could exhibit a distin...
متن کاملEFFECT OF COMPOSITION AND PREPARATION METHOD OF (Pd), Co, Ce, Zr - METAL-OXIDE CATALYSTS ON THEIR ACTIVITY IN THE REDUCTION OF NITROGEN(I), (II) OXIDES WITH CARBON MONOXIDE
Among the studied (Pd), Co-, Ce-, Zr-oxide catalysts including catalysts deposited on structured cordierite support, the catalyst prepared by co-deposition of ceria and cobalt oxide is characterized by higher activity in reaction of reduction of nitrogen(I), (II) oxides (CO + NO, N2O + NO + CO) compared with samples prepared by successive deposition. This may be caused by an increase in both mo...
